What an Animal Challenge

Kristi of
Passion for the Page is hosting What an Animal Challenge. Here are the rules:

1. Read at least 6 books that have any of these requirements:
a. an animal in the title of the book
b. an animal on the cover of the book
c. an animal that plays a major role in the book
d. a main character that is or turns into an animal (define that however you'd like ;>)).
2. The animal can be any type of animal (real or fictitious)--dog, cat, monkey, wolf, snake, insect, hedgehog, aardvark...dragons, mermaids, centaurs, fairies, vampires...you get the idea...
3. Challenge runs from July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009. You can still sign up after July 1st as long as you can get 6 books read by June 30th.
4. Books can be fiction or nonfiction.
5. You may make a list of books at the beginning of the challenge or just list them as you find them.
6. Books may be swapped out at anytime (assuming you made a list to begin with).
7. Crossover books with other challenges is permitted and encouraged.
8. You don't have to blog or write a review, but you can if you want to.

(Update 12-07-08: I decided to move this post from my main blog here. It's easier for me to have all my challenges in one place.)

My list:

1. Summer Blowout - Claire Cook
2. Dashing Through the Snow - Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark

The 2009 Serial Readers Challenge

I stumbled upon this challenge from CarPoolQueen. Always looking for a new series to read, this will be a good opportunity to finally read those series that have been on my TBR list for awhile. Ok, let me try to explain this challenge. The goal is to read books in a series (trilogies are allowed). In order to count the series, you have to read each book in the series in 2009. So, if you started reading a series prior to 2009, only the books read in 2009 will count. For more details, please read here.

I can think of a few trilogies/series I want to read: Queen of Babble by Meg Cabot, Prison Break Trilogy by Allison Brennan, Cooking Class Mystery Series by Miranda Bliss and An Advice Column Mystery Series by Roberta Isleib.

What's in a Name Challenge

Annie is hosting What's in a Name Part II. This challenge is from January 1 - December 31, 2009. You can overlap books from other challenges, however you cannot use the same book for more than one category.

The categories are:

1. A book with a "profession" in its title.
2. A book with a "time of day" in its title
3. A book with a "relative" in its title
4. A book with a "body part" in its title
5. A book with a "building" in its title
6. A book with a "medical condition" in its title

Chick Lit Challenge

Ok, I'll admit it... I love reading chick lit books! I just found this challenge hosted by Debi at BookAddict4Life. It's really an easy, laid-back challenge. The goal is to read at least 10 books in 2009. Pretty simple, right?

My list:

1.

YA Book Challenge

J. Kaye is hosting the 2009 Young Adult Book Challenge. This year I was reminded of how much I enjoy reading young adult fiction, so I decided to join this challenge too! Memories of reading Judy Blume...

Anyway, the challenge is from January 1 - December 31, 2009.

My list:

2nds Challenge

Well, because I decided to join the 1st in a Series Challenge, it makes sense to join the 2nds Challenge too! Once again, it's hosted by J. Kaye. The goal is to read 12 books by an author that you have only read once. The books you choose do not have to be part of a series. This challenge is from January 1 - December 31, 2009.

Countdown Challenge

Michelle, from 1morechapter, is hosting the Countdown Challenge. The rules are simple:

For each year 2001-2009, you read the number of books in the last digit for that year. For example, read 9 books that are published in 2009, 8 books published in 2008, 7 books published in 2007, etc. The best part is this challenge is retroactive. You can count books that you read after August 8, 2008. The challenge ends on September 9, 2009.

Library Challenge 2009

J. Kaye is hosting the 2009 Support Your Local Library Reading Challenge. There are three options to choose from:
  1. Read 12 books from your local library in 2009.
  2. Read 25 books from your local library in 2009.
  3. Read 50 books from your local library in 2009.
The challenge is from January 1 - December 31, 2009. Feel free to join at anytime, however you cannot start reading your books until Jan. 1st. After deciding the number of books to read, you cannot change it. Books can be audiobooks, young adult, children's or adult. I love going to the library so, I will read 50 books.

Read Your Own Books Challenge

MizB is hosting the Read-Your-Own-Books Challenge "RYOB".

The rules for this challenge are very simple…

* set a goal for how many of your OWN books you’d like to read in 2009

* read from your own collection between January 1st and December 31st, 2009

I wanted to join this challenge to help motivate me to read the books I own. At one time, I was so excited to purchase them, but for some reason that excitement faded. Now I have a collection of unread books just sitting on my bookshelves. I would like to clear a shelf or two after completing this challenge (and not to mention it will help ease the guilt of buying new books in 2009!) My goal is to read 25.
